I just finished my time unit and have some quick ideas for teaching time!
- Time "Go Fish!"
- This is a game I created where students must play Go Fish! to match the clocks with their description. The great thing about this game is that even if you catch them cheating and speaking English, it is still a good exercise because it means they are reading and translating. (I love when their "short cuts" end up being higher level thinking!) CLICK HERE for the link!
- Create a Clock
- Everywhere my German coworker has students create clock out of paper plates. Have them write out all the time and include minuit and midi. It would also be a good idea to have them highlight time increments like demi and quart. Then use a pin to mount the clock hands onto the plate and partners can take turns asking the show the time. This is a good activity to teach them some extra grammar like clock, little hand, big hand, etc.
http://www.crafthubs.com/paper-plate-clock/42888 - This picture from another blog show a clock made out of two layers if paper. Good idea for having the students write out the minutes and seconds as well!
- Matching
- Students can always match clocks and times together. They could even make them on scrap paper.
- Time Bingo
- Same idea when as matching. You could also have them write times out and you could read them in English.
Let me know if you have any fun ideas for teaching l'Heure!
Bonne Chance,
Mlle.
